Active Minds at Bowdoin College is a chapter of the larger nonprofit organization, Active Minds, which is focused on mental health awareness on college campuses across the U.S. In the Bowdoin College chapter, we strive to promote peer-to-peer discussion about mental illness. This includes ending the stigma surrounding mental health as well as advocating for conversations about suicide prevention. This is accomplished by campus events including speaker presentations, movie screenings, fundraisers, and more activities either focusing on education or stress management.

Animal Aids, in collaboration with Midcoast Humane, is dedicated to fostering a compassionate environment for animals while strengthening the connection between Bowdoin College and the Brunswick community. Our mission is to provide high-quality care for animals, promote responsible pet ownership, and support Midcoast Humane's efforts through volunteerism, advocacy, and outreach. We aim to engage Bowdoin students in meaningful ways, such as organizing volunteer opportunities and joint events, to help enhance animal welfare and build a lasting partnership between the college and the organization.
In addition to strengthening this relationship, Animal Aids is committed to giving back to the local community. Arabesque is Bowdoin's only student-run, classical ballet group. Our mission is to provide experienced dancers with the opportunity to continue refining the techniques needed to learn and perform original choreography and to allow inexperienced dancers a place to learn and experience dance. BOKA is a colorful co-ed a cappella group that sings a wide variety of genres. BOKA is Bowdoin's oldest co-ed a cappella group working to provide a fun environment for students to join a musical group on campus. We tend to sing songs that fall into the pop, folk, and indie categories and try to have as much fun as possible doing it. We like to have low-key and relaxed concerts for friends and students on campus and are most well known for performances at LL Bean, St. Marks School, and other local venues. Bowdoin Club Alpine Skiing's mission is to promote and support a fun and competitive alpine skiing team on Bowdoin's campus. The team competes in the Reynolds division of the USCSA (United States Collegiate Skiing Association) conference against many of Bowdoin's peer institutions in Maine and across New England. The team seeks to support experienced racers who wish to continue racing for Bowdoin and encourage new racers to learn the skills and dynamics of the sport. The team trains at Lost Valley, a local ski area, twice a week, and competes in Slalom and GS races on weekends throughout the winter and early spring. The team hosts weekly dryland trainings in the Buck Fitness Center throughout the fall and occasionally in winter and spring.

Bowdoin College Club Water Polo was founded in the early 1970s as a recreational group and has since grown into a competitive member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). From 1999 to 2007 the Polar Bears competed in the CWPA New England conference; today they are members of the North Atlantic conference and compete for a joint championship with the Colonial conference. Bowdoin College Club Water Polo has a limitless roster and welcomes both experienced and novice players. The Bowdoin Film Society is a tightly-knit group of cinephiles and filmmakers dedicated to cultivating and maintaining a thriving filmmaking community on campus. The History of Reproductive Justice
The concept of reproductive justice has been practiced by Indigenous women, women of color, and transgender women long before their advocacy work had a specific term. Reproductive justice as a framework and practice was named when a group of Black women gathered in Chicago in 1994 to address disparities in the Clinton Administration’s proposal for healthcare reform which de-emphasized reproductive healthcare. (1) The group, who named themselves Women of African Descent for Reproductive Justice (2), launched the reproductive justice movement by publishing a historic full-page statement with 800+ signatures in The Washington Post and Roll Call (3) calling for all health care reform packages to include the concerns of Black women. (4) Three years later, 16 organizations, including Black, Asian-American, Latina, and Indigenous women, merged to create Sister Song Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective. (5) Today, Sister Song defines reproductive justice as “the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities.” (6) Through the reproductive justice framework, activism is centered on how reproductive health and access are shaped by the various aspects that make up one’s lived experience.

Bowdoin Reproductive Justice Coalition Mission Statement
The Bowdoin Reproductive Justice Coalition aims to foster education, discussion, and advocacy for reproductive justice within the Bowdoin community. We seek to promote activism at both the local and national levels and affect political change with an emphasis on access to equitable reproductive healthcare. We hope to serve as a connection between Bowdoin students and the larger reproductive justice movement through partnering with on-campus, local, and national organizations.

In order to foster an intersectional coalition, we have dissolved our leadership structure and seek representation from as many viewpoints and backgrounds as possible. Anyone can be an officer and lead an initiative. We encourage all students to join and believe a real coalition is diverse in backgrounds, experiences, and identities. We hope anyone who is passionate about reproductive justice will use the coalition’s resources to achieve their advocacy goals. At every meeting, the floor is open to all attendees to bring forward issues they want to work on or discuss. We are committed to collaborating with other student groups on campus to foster a welcoming and collaborative space. The Bowdoin Society of Physics Students is our department's chapter of the national SPS, part of the American Institute of Physics, and is open to all students. Members of the SPS build community by organizing events for physics students and enthusiasts, like stargazing nights on the quad, picnics, alumni panels, faculty Q&A sessions, guest speakers, and more. Through engaging with SPS, students interested in physics can advance their communication and leadership ability beyond their Bowdoin coursework and support the vibrancy of the physics community at Bowdoin.

Sustainability is a core value at Bowdoin that is seen in operational decision-making all across campus. The Bowdoin Sustainability Office originated in 2001 as an office within Facilities Management focused on reducing the college's environmental impact. The Sustainability Office has implemented or overseen many projects over the years including significant waste reduction efforts during student move-out, food waste diversion programs, Bowdoin’s transition to single stream recycling, alternative transportation programming, developing one of the first EcoRep programs in the country, and focusing on efforts to become a carbon neutral campus.

BUMP seeks to support and build a stronger community for underrepresented students on their path to medical professions with the overarching goal of diversifying healthcare. While the club closely aligns itself to the American Association of Medical Colleges' definition of underrepresented in medicine, those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population, BUMP expands its meaning to include individuals marginzalied on the basis of class, gender, sexuality, religion, etc.

BUMP offers programming and fellowship centered on academic and social support, essential skills, and knowledge of the pathways to healthcare careers. By providing space for this community to grow, as well as tools to excel in medicine, BUMP supports underrepresented students in paths toward medical professions. BUMP students are supported throughout their undergraduate career to navigate and access high impact opportunities and learn what it means to be a strong candidate for medical and health professional schools.

Brunswick High School (BHS) Mentoring is a one-on-one, social-based mentoring program that provides additional support, bonding, and friendship for local high school students who seek that extra connection beyond their schoolmates, teachers, or even family members. Such relationships have been shown to improve academic performance, socialization skills, and┬áconfidence levels—not to mention increase smile diameters. Plus, the longer a mentee-mentor relationship lasts, the larger the exponential┬ágains over time!

Our Go Abstract Strategy Club's mission is to grow as learners and thinkers together, through the game of Go.

Go (also called weiqi, baduk) is considered to be one of the most ancient pastime since it originated around 4th century BC, but what brings it at Bowdoin is its current relevance to disciplines like GOV, DCS, Math and Visual Arts, among others.

The game only has 4 simple rules, but it takes a lifetime to master or an AI algorithm to perfect. It is enjoyable to play because you spend about an hour with your friend, see how they think, how brave or reckless they are, but you always learn something new.

Harmony is Bowdoin’s new initiative to connect community partners in the Brunswick area with the Bowdoin Music Department. Through partnerships with Curtis Community Concerts, Amethyst Chamber Ensemble, Southern Maine New Horizons Band, St Cecilia Chamber Choir, Main Music Teachers Association, Classical Uprising, and other outside organizations, we strive to bridge the gap between music on and off campus and develop more collaborative relationships with our off-campus community. With this initiative, we hope to provide our students with plenty of off campus opportunities to engage in the music world. We would like to credit The Opportunity Fund for providing us with the resources to jumpstart this effort.

The Latin American Student Organization (LASO) is a cultural organization composed of students who welcome all those who are interested in and or identify with Latin American culture. Our group includes students who have lived, traveled to, or currently reside in various countries in North, Central, and South America as well as the Caribbean. Central to many of our activities is an emphasis on music, Latin food, culture, and our community's experience on Bowdoin's campus.

We aim to educate and unite our Latinx demographic with other spheres of campus life, a goal that is oftentimes executed through collaboration with other Bowdoin student groups or offices. LASO strives to assist the Latinx community to adjust to all capacities of life at Bowdoin and find a place of comfort while educating ourselves and the greater community about Latinx culture, customs, as well as issues and combating stereotypes or biases.

The Native American Student Association welcomes all walks of life. In an effort to reclaim our Indigeneity, NASA's mission aims to increase awareness of Native cultures and perspectives on Bowdoin's predominantly white campus. NASA provides a safe healing space for all students who are passionate about tackling issues facing Indigenous peoples today. To reframe colonized ideologies surrounding education and ways of knowing, NASA believes that change comes from within community. We encourage the Bowdoin community to recognize the importance of Native voices and sovereignty in white spaces, as we are the backbone of existence.

We want respectfully acknowledge Bowdoin College resides upon the traditional homelands of the Abenaki People. The Abenaki are members of the Wabanaki Confederacy, or "People of the Dawn," which include five member nations: the Abenaki, Migamaw, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy, and the Penobscot.

This was a site of trade, travel, gathering, and healing for the Wabanaki over more than 12,000 years. Today, each community maintains its own tribal government, community schools, cultural centers, and manages its respective lands and natural resources.

Although most of Maine's Native people belong to one of these five federally recognized groups and reside on tribal lands, other Native people live in towns and cities across the State. We make this acknowledgment aware of violations of water, territorial rights, and sacred sites across Wabanaki homelands, which are stewarded today by over 7,800 tribal members in the state of Maine.

Indigenous peoples continue to protect and remain in relationship with the land and waters and will do so until the end of time. It is vital to honor these beginnings and recognize the ongoing dedication and importance of Indigenous culture within our communities and within the spaces that we gather, live, learn, and work on.

People of the Dawn allow us to be here. For their truth is our truth. Their pain is our pain. With our breath we carry words of healing. With our hands we write this prayer.

Office Hours Improv works to bring long-form improvisational comedy to Bowdoin. Our group studies the teachings of the Upright Citizens Brigade and their manual on comedy improvisation, and we devote at least five hours a week to practicing and playing together. We value the UCB form and also try to explore new comedic forms based upon the group's interests. We take improv seriously as a comedic art, a structure to build community and as means to develop as individuals. We want every show to feel original and to offer something different than the last. We believe that the practice of improv stretches our imagination and helps us become more creative, trusting, and curious people. Orientation Trips provide the first introduction to life at Bowdoin. Orientation Trips are intended to help assist with the transition into Bowdoin life by providing an inclusive and welcoming small-group experience for all incoming students. Polar Bear Swing Dance exists to teach West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, and social dancing to the college community. Founded in 1937, the Bowdoin College Meddiebempsters are the third oldest collegiate a cappella group in the nation and a historic student group on campus. The Bowdoin Orient is a student-run weekly publication dedicated to providing news and information relevant to the College community. Editorially independent of the College and its administrators, the Orient pursues such content freely and thoroughly, following professional journalistic standards in writing and reporting. The Orient is committed to serving as an open forum for thoughtful and diverse discussion and debate on issues of interest to the College community.

The Bowdoin Review is a magazine for Bowdoin students to share their creative endeavors outside of the classroom. Whether it be prose, poetry, or art, our magazine publishes a variety of views, each showcasing some of the best work on campus. We publish twice a semester in 40-page printed editions and online year-round.

Mission
Do you love to read? Offer your opinion? Creatively write? Then our club is for you! The Foundationalist is an intercollegiate undergraduate english journal based out of Bowdoin College that features outstanding works of fiction, creative non-fiction, and critical essays. We look for editors to read, evaluate, and curate an issue each semester in addition to graphic designers and creative thinkers. This last semester we received over 300 submissions from 70 universities across the globe! We also take submissions from the whole student body.

Mission
The Nightingale Society strives to help Bowdoin College students de-stress and connect through writing, reading, and sharing poetry. We meet weekly for an hour to engage in a unique poetry writing activity that challenges and expands our notions of form, language, and collaboration. Toward the end of meetings, members can share their impromptu and selected pieces in a safe environment. We also engage in self-led initiatives to bring poetry (and occasionally visiting professional poets) to the greater Bowdoin community, including but not limited to distributing hundreds of personally written haikus on Valentines Day, posting our poetry publicly for poetry month, and creating an anthology.

Mission
The Quill is Bowdoin's oldest and only literary and arts magazine. Biannually, we publish a collection of short stories, poetry and visual art. We meet weekly to review submissions sent to us throughout the week.We encourage anyone in the Bowdoin and Brunswick community to submit work to our magazine. We also take time during our meetings for the members to free write and share with the group. In addition to our publications we work with local businesses in Brunswick to host Open Mic Nights, Readings, and other such events. We aim to try and connect the Bowdoin community with its larger Brunswick community by sharing art.

Mission
Co-ed a cappella that sings throwbacks, alternative music, and hits. Ursus has evolved to occupy a narrow musical niche, attaching certain acoustical characteristics to their name and style which include but are not limited to: ridiculous electronic melodies, bold and compelling chord progressions, and perfectly blended harmonies that will enchant audiences. We strive to sing and share music on campus and throughout town and tend to perform a mix of throwbacks, alternative tunes, and hits from today. Some years, we record and produce our own CD. We look to sing at campus events, have our own concerts, sing at more formal events, and also collaborate with a cappella groups from other schools.

Mission
We are Bowdoin's only student-run, audition-based jazz dance performance group. We hold auditions every fall, and form a group of 10-15 experienced dancers. We hope to create quality performances by incorporating jazz, modern, and lyrical styles. We rehearse twice a week and perform at least three times a year at club shows and other campus events.

WBOR (91.1 FM) is a diverse, collaborative, and student-run radio station for Bowdoin College students, faculty, staff, and Midcoast community members to express themselves in a welcoming community of creative folk. Bowdoin Women of Color Coalition (WoCC) is a cultural group that aims to provide mentorship and support to all who identify as BIPOC women and femmes. The goal of this coalition is to create a community that promotes diversity and inclusivity both on and off-campus. Our events and programming range from dinner meetings every other week, off-campus bonding events, and political action raising awareness to issues BIPOC women face. The WoCC aims to foster a community where members can engage with each other and explore what it means to be BIPOC women on campus. We hope to do this through programming centered around issues affecting BIPOC women both on campus and in our greater community. The WoCC welcomes individuals that identify as women and femmes in any way that is meaningful to them.
