Descriptions of each of the four committees

Communications

The responsibilities of the communications committee entails furthering the mission of diversity and inclusion in medicine through publicizing events, maintaining alumni relations, and engaging students of all class years. Responsibilities include:

  • Manage all social media to advertise BUMP events and meetings
  • Maintain consistent relationships with alumni in health-care professions to build BUMP's network for students and alumni
  • Foster mentorship between alumni and students, as well as between students
  • Focus on first-year outreach and increasing diversity and inclusion

Events

The events committee is responsible for the coordination and execution of all club programming that align with the club's mission statement. All programming should aim to provide BUMP members with resources to support them in their pre-health journey. Responsibilities include:

  • Organize at least one club event per month. Events can be formal informational programming or informal community-building events. Committee meetings are not included in programmed events.
  • Build an inclusive community between students through events to create a student pre-health support system.
  • Work closely with the communications and curriculum committees to advertise events and develop ideas for future programming.

Chartering

The Chartering Committee is responsible for outlining the conditions under which BUMP is organized. Committee members obligations extend to matters related to re-charting the club, authoring the constitution, and establishing club expectation. Responsibilities include:

  • Re-charter the club and submit required documents to appropriate Bowdoin Student Activities committees.
  • Author the BUMP constitution and re-evaluate the infrastructure of committees.
  • Establish and communicate expectations so committee members can fulfill obligations defined in the constitution.

Curriculum

The curriculum committee's responsibilities consist of scheduling and designing the curriculum for regular, biweekly meetings involving all BUMP members. The schedule and curriculum of meetings must first consider the needs of BUMP's membership. Responsibilities include:

  • Account for members' circumstances, such as time zones and class schedules, to allow for accessibility.
  • Provide accessible meeting archives and a safe, engaging meeting environment for all members.
  • Inform and communicate members the scheduling of meetings with sufficient notice for students to attend.
  • Design the curriculum in close consultation with the Events Committee, which is also tasked with engaging students.
