Active Minds at Bowdoin College is a chapter of the larger nonprofit organization, Active Minds, which is focused on mental health awareness on college campuses across the U.S. In the Bowdoin College chapter, we strive to promote peer-to-peer discussion about mental illness. This includes ending the stigma surrounding mental health as well as advocating for conversations about suicide prevention. This is accomplished by campus events including speaker presentations, movie screenings, fundraisers, and more activities either focusing on education or stress management.

Arabesque is Bowdoin's only student-run, classical ballet group. Our mission is to provide experienced dancers with the opportunity to continue refining the techniques needed to learn and perform original choreography and to allow inexperienced dancers a place to learn and experience dance. We rehearse and hold open classes weekly, perform twice throughout the school year, and occasionally host bonding activities that allow members to collectively celebrate this art form.

BOKA is a colorful co-ed a cappella group that sings a wide variety of genres. BOKA is Bowdoin's oldest co-ed a cappella group working to provide a fun environment for students to join a musical group on campus. We tend to sing songs that fall into the pop, folk, and indie categories and try to have as much fun as possible doing it. We like to have low-key and relaxed concerts for friends and students on campus and are most well known for performances at LL Bean, St. Marks School, and other local venues. BOKA is a very collaborative group, looking for input from all of our members, and more importantly, we are all friends and become family by the end of the year!

Bowdoin Animation Society (BAS) is the place for anime/animation fans to be!

From weekly showings, an organized convention trip, and complementary Pocky, we have much of what an anime fan could need. Are you new to anime? Only watch casually? A die-hard fan? Whatever your relationship with the medium is, it’s all good! Each week is a different theme, so be sure to check the BAS Calendar (see General Channel) for insight on when you plan to stop by!

Note: While we watch mostly Japanese anime, we’re open to and build in animation from other countries from Chinese, to Celtic, to American!

Bowdoin Club Alpine Skiing's mission is to promote and support a fun and competitive alpine skiing team on Bowdoin's campus. The team competes in the Reynolds division of the USCSA (United States Collegiate Skiing Association) conference against many of Bowdoin's peer institutions in Maine and across New England. The team seeks to support experienced racers who wish to continue racing for Bowdoin and encourage new racers to learn the skills and dynamics of the sport. The team trains at Lost Valley, a local ski area, twice a week, and competes in Slalom and GS races on weekends throughout the winter and early spring. The team hosts weekly dryland trainings in the Buck Fitness Center throughout the fall and occasionally in winter and spring.

Bowdoin College Club Water Polo was founded in the early 1970s as a recreational group and has since grown into a competitive member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). From 1999 to 2007 the Polar Bears competed in the CWPA New England conference; today they are members of the North Atlantic conference and compete for a joint championship with the Colonial conference. Bowdoin College Club Water Polo has a limitless roster and welcomes both experienced and novice players. We encourage anyone willing to learn and compete to join the team, though comfort in the water is a must. Bowdoin Water Polo prides itself on its commitment to camaraderie, teamwork, and fair play.
