Call for Applications to Research Awards: Deadline to apply: March 12, 2021

The Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies Program, LACLaS, is accepting applications for our annual Research Awards program. The Allen Wells Travel and Research Awards support student research in Mexico, Central or South America, the Caribbean, or in Latinx communities in the United States. The awards are intended to increase understanding of the region and foster research skills among sophomores and juniors majoring in any academic discipline. Applicants are expected to develop proposals in consultation with a faculty mentor who agrees to supervise or support the project.

The on-site research can be conducted during the summer months, between semesters, or to extend off-campus study experiences. Up to $5,000 will be awarded, which includes a $480 weekly honorarium for a maximum of eight weeks, and up to $1,600 in travel and research funds.

The research grants applications isÔÇ»March 12.ÔÇ»Given that limitations to traveling abroad may still be in place throughout the Summer, we are suggesting that you craft your proposal in a way that allows for remote research or postpone the travel component of the project until the Winter break. Please discuss such options with your faculty advisors in advance of your submission. You can read more and start the applicationÔÇ»here
