Author and Illustrator Julia Sarcone-Roach and Book Artist and Curator Yuka Petz join in conversation to share their experiences from over 25 years of creating books and 33 years of creative friendship.

Yuka Petz is a visual artist whose creative practice is centered around language, heritage, and text, and encompasses printmaking, drawing, and artist’s books. She writes and hosts Artist’s Books Unshelved, a video series presenting in-depth analysis of artists’ books in the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art collection. Yuka teaches book arts workshops around the country and is committed to collaborative and community-oriented projects that increase the accessibility of print and book arts.

Julia Sarcone-Roach is an award winning author and illustrator of multiple children’s picture books. Her book, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich, was an Ezra Jack Keats Honor Award winner, a New York Times bestseller, and an excuse to eat many sandwiches. She is also the illustrator of the Ezra Jack Keats Honor Award book Excellent Ed by Stacy McAnulty, as well as the upcoming book The Island written by Gideon Sterer (Fall 2026).
