The Oasis Free Clinics is a primary care medical facility in Brunswick that provides free medical, dental, and prescription assistance services to low-income, uninsured adults living in Midcoast Maine. As a small non-profit organization, the majority of clinical services are provided by volunteer doctors, NPs, PAs, nurses, counselors, dentists, and dental hygienists. The clinic does not receive state or federal funding, so it relies on donations from individuals, foundations, businesses, and other organizations.
Next academic year, Bowdoin students have the opportunity to volunteer through the Oasis Free Clinics Bowdoin Students Volunteers program coordinated by Ashlynn Autrey, ‘22 and Thomas Trundy, ‘23. The clinic currently needs volunteers to assist with either clinical tasks or administrative tasks associated with running a non-profit. With a limited number of paid staff, the opportunity to make a difference at the Oasis Free Clinics is big. See position descriptions below for more detail.
To be eligible, volunteers must have availability both semesters next academic year when the clinic is open: Monday-Friday from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Students must commit to a weekly shift at the same day and time for the duration of the semester. Volunteers must also attend fall orientation and monthly meetings held on the Bowdoin campus. We are looking for students who are flexible, friendly, compassionate, see all jobs as an opportunity to learn, and demonstrate initiative.
An information and Q&A session will be held via Zoom at 8:30 PM EST on Wednesday, April 13th. Use the following Zoom link to log on and hear more about the positions and ask any questions you may have.
