WBOR (91.1 FM) is a diverse, collaborative, and student-run radio station for Bowdoin College students, faculty, staff, and Midcoast community members to express themselves in a welcoming community of creative folk. For over eight decades, WBOR has created quality, independent, and unique programming that represents the diversity of the Bowdoin and Midcoast area while fostering a sense of community and discovery. Through creative programming, live events, and community engagement, WBOR provides a platform for new and underrepresented voices, perspectives, and sounds while also providing a student-run alternative to standard commercial radio.

Active Minds at Bowdoin College is a chapter of the larger nonprofit organization, Active Minds, which is focused on mental health awareness on college campuses across the U.S. In the Bowdoin College chapter, we strive to promote peer-to-peer discussion about mental illness. This includes ending the stigma surrounding mental health as well as advocating for conversations about suicide prevention. This is accomplished by campus events including speaker presentations, movie screenings, fundraisers, and more activities either focusing on education or stress management.

Arabesque is Bowdoin's only student-run, classical ballet group. Our mission is to provide experienced dancers with the opportunity to continue refining the techniques needed to learn and perform original choreography and to allow inexperienced dancers a place to learn and experience dance. We rehearse and hold open classes weekly, perform twice throughout the school year, and occasionally host bonding activities that allow members to collectively celebrate this art form.

BOKA is a colorful co-ed a cappella group that sings a wide variety of genres. BOKA is Bowdoin's oldest co-ed a cappella group working to provide a fun environment for students to join a musical group on campus. We tend to sing songs that fall into the pop, folk, and indie categories and try to have as much fun as possible doing it. We like to have low-key and relaxed concerts for friends and students on campus and are most well known for performances at LL Bean, St. Marks School, and other local venues. BOKA is a very collaborative group, looking for input from all of our members, and more importantly, we are all friends and become family by the end of the year!

From weekly showings, an organized convention trip, and complementary Pocky, we have much of what an anime fan could need. Are you new to anime? Only watch casually? A die-hard fan? Each week is a different theme so be sure to check the BAS Calendar (see General Channel) for insight on when you plan to stop by and get some possible animes we could watch!

Bowdoin Club Alpine Skiing's mission is to promote and support a fun and competitive alpine skiing team on Bowdoin's campus. The team competes in the Reynolds division of the USCSA (United States Collegiate Skiing Association) conference against many of Bowdoin's peer institutions in Maine and across New England. The team seeks to support experienced racers who wish to continue racing for Bowdoin and encourage new racers to learn the skills and dynamics of the sport. The team trains at Lost Valley, a local ski area, twice a week, and competes in Slalom and GS races on weekends throughout the winter and early spring. The team hosts weekly dryland trainings in the Buck Fitness Center throughout the fall and occasionally in winter and spring.

The purpose of Club Tennis is to give all Bowdoin students an outlet to play tennis. The team consists of a variety of students from first time players who want to learn how to casually play to experienced veterans who wish to compete against other schools.

Bowdoin College Club Water Polo was founded in the early 1970s as a recreational group and has since grown into a competitive member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). From 1999 to 2007 the Polar Bears competed in the CWPA New England conference; today they are members of the North Atlantic conference and compete for a joint championship with the Colonial conference. Bowdoin College Club Water Polo has a limitless roster and welcomes both experienced and novice players. We encourage anyone willing to learn and compete to join the team, though comfort in the water is a must. Bowdoin Water Polo prides itself on its commitment to camaraderie, teamwork, and fair play.

The Bowdoin Film Society is a tightly-knit group of cinephiles and filmmakers dedicated to cultivating and maintaining a thriving filmmaking community on campus. The society lies at the heart of cinema culture here at Bowdoin College, from film production to screenings to discussions. BFS meets weekly during the academic year to discuss programming and projects. Currently, the society screens films every Friday for the campus and hosts a student film festival, the 48 Hour Film Festival, every spring. Programming is the primary focus of our group, with the continued goal of screening a variety of films including under-appreciated cinematic gems and Hollywood blockbusters. Bowdoin Quiz Bowl aims to offer students of all experience levels the opportunity to test their knowledge in academic quiz competitions, both in club meetings at Bowdoin and at competitions throughout the year. The team will be accommodating to all skill and intensity levels, from the casual member to those interested in competing at the inter-scholastic level. The team also aims to create an environment that fosters learning and encountering a variety of subjects that may not be found in one's classroom. Bowdoin Reproductive Justice Coalition - Mission Statement

The History of Reproductive Justice
The concept of reproductive justice has been practiced by Indigenous women, women of color, and transgender women long before their advocacy work had a specific term. Reproductive justice as a framework and practice was named when a group of Black women gathered in Chicago in 1994 to address disparities in the Clinton Administration’s proposal for healthcare reform which de-emphasized reproductive healthcare. (1) The group, who named themselves Women of African Descent for Reproductive Justice (2), launched the reproductive justice movement by publishing a historic full-page statement with 800+ signatures in The Washington Post and Roll Call (3) calling for all health care reform packages to include the concerns of Black women. (4) Three years later, 16 organizations, including Black, Asian-American, Latina, and Indigenous women, merged to create Sister Song Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective. (5) Today, Sister Song defines reproductive justice as “the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities.” (6) Through the reproductive justice framework, activism is centered on how reproductive health and access are shaped by the various aspects that make up one’s lived experience.

Bowdoin Reproductive Justice Coalition Mission Statement
The Bowdoin Reproductive Justice Coalition aims to foster education, discussion, and advocacy for reproductive justice within the Bowdoin community. We seek to promote activism at both the local and national levels and affect political change with an emphasis on access to equitable reproductive healthcare. We hope to serve as a connection between Bowdoin students and the larger reproductive justice movement through partnering with on-campus, local, and national organizations.

In order to foster an intersectional coalition, we have dissolved our leadership structure and seek representation from as many viewpoints and backgrounds as possible. Anyone can be an officer and lead an initiative. We encourage all students to join and believe a real coalition is diverse in backgrounds, experiences, and identities. We hope anyone who is passionate about reproductive justice will use the coalition’s resources to achieve their advocacy goals. At every meeting, the floor is open to all attendees to bring forward issues they want to work on or discuss. We are committed to collaborating with other student groups on campus to foster a welcoming and collaborative space. The Bowdoin Sustainability Office originated in 2001 as an office within Facilities Management focused on reducing the college's environmental impact. The Sustainability Office has implemented or overseen many projects over the years including significant waste reduction efforts during student move-out, food waste diversion programs, Bowdoin’s transition to single stream recycling, alternative transportation programming, developing one of the first EcoRep programs in the country, and focusing on efforts to become a carbon neutral campus.

BUMP seeks to support and build a stronger community for underrepresented students on their path to medical professions with the overarching goal of diversifying healthcare. While the club closely aligns itself to the American Association of Medical Colleges' definition of underrepresented in medicine, those racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population, BUMP expands its meaning to include individuals marginzalied on the basis of class, gender, sexuality, religion, etc.

Go (also called weiqi, baduk) is considered to be one of the most ancient pastime since it originated around 4th century BC, but what brings it at Bowdoin is its current relevance to disciplines like GOV, DCS, Math and Visual Arts, among others.

The game only has 4 simple rules, but it takes a lifetime to master or an AI algorithm to perfect. It is enjoyable to play because you spend about an hour with your friend, see how they think, how brave or reckless they are, but you always learn something new.

The Latin American Student Organization (LASO) is a cultural organization composed of students who welcome all those who are interested in and or identify with Latin American culture. Masque & Gown serves as a student-run production company to facilitate and streamline the production process of student-run theater on campus. We want respectfully acknowledge Bowdoin College resides upon the traditional homelands of the Abenaki People. The Abenaki are members of the Wabanaki Confederacy, or "People of the Dawn," which include five member nations: the Abenaki, Migamaw, Maliseet, Passamaquoddy, and the Penobscot.

This was a site of trade, travel, gathering, and healing for the Wabanaki over more than 12,000 years. Today, each community maintains its own tribal government, community schools, cultural centers, and manages its respective lands and natural resources.

Although most of Maine's Native people belong to one of these five federally recognized groups and reside on tribal lands, other Native people live in towns and cities across the State. We make this acknowledgment aware of violations of water, territorial rights, and sacred sites across Wabanaki homelands, which are stewarded today by over 7,800 tribal members in the state of Maine.

Indigenous peoples continue to protect and remain in relationship with the land and waters and will do so until the end of time. It is vital to honor these beginnings and recognize the ongoing dedication and importance of Indigenous culture within our communities and within the spaces that we gather, live, learn, and work on.

People of the Dawn allow us to be here. For their truth is our truth. Their pain is our pain. With our breath we carry words of healing. With our hands we write this prayer.

Office Hours Improv works to bring long-form improvisational comedy to Bowdoin. Our group studies the teachings of the Upright Citizens Brigade and their manual on comedy improvisation, and we devote at least five hours a week to practicing and playing together. We value the UCB form and also try to explore new comedic forms based upon the group's interests. We take improv seriously as a comedic art, a structure to build community and as means to develop as individuals. We want every show to feel original and to offer something different than the last. We believe that the practice of improv stretches our imagination and helps us become more creative, trusting, and curious people. While this group admits new members via audition, we value inclusivity and are interested in sharing improv practices with the broader community. We love to laugh!

Orientation Trips are intended to help assist with the transition into Bowdoin life by providing an inclusive and welcoming small-group experience for all incoming students. Trips are a great chance for first-year students to meet classmates, upper-class leaders, faculty, and staff members in a relaxed and informal setting.

The Outing Club offers a wide range of trips in Maine and New Hampshire, including day hiking, backpacking, sailing, surfing, whitewater kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, meditation and wellness trips, and more. The McKeen Center offers a variety of trips, including ones that work with rural Maine communities, native communities in Downeast Maine, and underserved populations in the greater Brunswick area.
