Details

This interdisciplinary session traces the figure of Medusa from antiquity to the present through a series of ten-minute “lightning talks” by scholars from Classics, Medieval Studies, Art History, Studio Art, English, and Modern Languages. Topics include Boccaccio’s Medusa, the Roman de la Rose interpolation, Petrarchan adaptations in English literature, Medusa-like figures in Japanese folklore, and even the Medusa machine in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, alongside a pedagogy paper on teaching myth today. Together, these talks explore how Medusa’s image has been continually reimagined across cultures, media, and historical periods.

Free and open to the public.
