The Bowdoin Outing Club (BOC) aims to further the educational objectives of the College by promoting outdoor education and recreational activities. It encourages the development of personal traits such as initiative, integrity, self-reliance, and leadership while teaching the technical skills necessary to safely enjoy the outdoors. The BOC exposes students to various outdoor recreational opportunities available in Maine while providing an outdoor experience that challenges students in a manner that reinforces or builds self-confidence and social interaction. The BOC offers a selection of trips that allow students to explore existing or emerging outdoor interests, which they may continue to pursue throughout their lives. While doing so the BOC promotes respect for the natural environment and encourages minimum impact living techniques. The BOC offers a leadership opportunity for undergraduates by providing them with the training and resources necessary to successfully lead groups of their peers while instilling the ethic of service for the Common Good.
