Join us at the Pub for an evening with international award-winning solo performer and writer Mia Raye Smith!

Resilience is an autobiographical play that follows the experience of an African American woman returning to work after being on disability for her anxiety disorder. The play highlights the protagonist’s experience in multiple therapeutic settings as she seeks a therapist, and unpacks the correlation between race and anxiety, the strong black woman syndrome and the challenges people of color face in therapeutic settings. Following the performance, Mia will host an interactive discussion around how the audience processes common shared themes in the play.

Mia was born in Detroit, Michigan, with an African American and Creole and heritage from Louisiana. She spent her teenage years growing up in Queens, NY. Her performances flow through one single actor, playing characters of various cultural backgrounds, genders and age. She is a recipient of the Queens Council on the Arts grant, the International Centre for Women Playwrights grant and most recently she is Semi-Finalist for the Dramatists Guild National Fellowship. She is a multi-hyphenate artist who strives to create boundary-breaking stories that reimagine American theater.
