Please join us for the keynote lecture to mark the opening of Gordon Parks: Herklas Brown and Maine, 1944Philip Brookman, Consulting Curator in the Department of Photographs at the National Gallery of Art, will present the lecture “Gordon Parks: The Sphere of Conscious History.” An opening reception from 5:00–6:30 p.m. at the Museum of Art will follow the lecture.

At the National Gallery, Philip Brookman organized Dorothea Lange: Seeing People (2023–2024), Gordon Parks: The New Tide, Early Work 1940–1950 (2018–2019) and Intersections: Photographs and Videos from the National Gallery of Art and the Corcoran Gallery of Art (2016–2017). He is currently working on an exhibition about the connections between photography and the Black Arts Movement.

Free and open to the public; no registration required. A livestream will be available for remote viewing.*

Presented in conjunction with East-Northeast: Charting Moments in Maine, four exhibitions at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art featuring the work of Maine-focused artists Ann Craven, Rudy Burckhardt, John McKee, and Gordon Parks.
