“Dragon Wind” is the Chinese translation of “tornado,” or longjuan feng 龙卷风. According to Chinese Zodiac, 2024 is the year of the dragon. Hong Chun Zhang, a Chinese-born and Kansas-based artist, will discuss her work "The Eye of the Tornado" (2023) in relationship to the symbol of Chinese dragon. She will also share reflections about her studio practice in the context of explorations of self and broader themes of gender, cross-cultural exchange, and the environment.

Acquired by the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in 2023, "The Eye of the Tornado" is included in the exhibition "Threads: Artists Weave Their Worlds," on view through October 6, 2024.

Free and open to the public. Presented by the Bowdoin College Museum of Art.
